I. There is a problem in society today. That problem is:
In the military today, women are not on equal standards with men. Women are unable to do certain things such as be on submarines in the Navy or fight in combat in the Army. If women are able to join the armed forces and recieve the same training as every man who joins, why are they not able to do the same jobs and tasks as the men? It is unfair to the women that they are not treated equally. This unequal treatment creates a strong division between the genders. As a result, women in the military are being harassed, verbally and sexually, by their fellow male soldiers.
II. Facts that demonstrate that there is a problem are:

Even though women currently make up over 14% of the United States military, they are still unable to fight in combat, obtain certain positions, and earn promotions like their fellow male soldiers. The US Navy recently lifted their ban on women in submarines and naval vessels. Now it is time to make the Army and Marine Corps equal as well. As of now, women are still unable to serve in artillery, tanks, special forces, combat engineering, medical support, logistics, administrative and intelligence. And even though they are assigned to combat units, they are not allowed to fire weapons or fight enemies.
Harassment is a pressing problem in the military as well. Male soldiers and not only physically harassing, but are also sexually harassing their fellow female soldiers. Even though soldiers are supposed to be held at a higher standard than other citizens with stricter morals, rape is a prominent part of the U.S. military. It has gotten to the point where some females just expect it to happen, as if it is a normal part of being in the armed forces.
